Mayor Teresa Jacobs’ Leadership, Employment and Development Success Program – OCFL LEADS – offers a select class of high school students the opportunity to engage first-hand with Orange County’s growing vocational workforce, introducing them to a network of talented technical professionals.
The youth employment program introduces students to the region’s diverse economy, as well as provides them with the opportunity to gain valuable, transferable work place experience and interpersonal skills for their futures. Admission into the program is through recommendation by school guidance counselors. Students are matched into a summer internship with Orange County workplace partners based on an interest assessment and in-person interviews with recruiters in the construction, health, technical, skilled labor and hospitality fields. The eight-week program includes a week of workplace practice and job readiness workshops, seven weeks of paid internship and a graduation ceremony.
OCFL LEADS is coordinated by Orange County Government’s Community Action Division under the mentorship of recruitment experts at CareerSource Central Florida and their Career Conextions program.
Career Conextions seeks to create a better-educated, trained, and prepared workforce to meet the demands of area businesses.
