Orange County, Fl., At 2:15 p.m., Orange County Firefighters responded to 6017 Ambassador Dr., in the Pine Hills area of Orange County for a structure fire.
Upon arrival, firefighters found heavy black smoke coming from the garage. The residents advised fire crews that 5 dogs were possibly still inside the residence. Firefighters found 2 dogs safe in the back yard, 2 dogs met the crews when they accessed the front door. Unfortunately, the fifth dog expired from smoke inhalation was found under a bed.
Orange County Paramedics administered oxygen to one of the dogs with a special oxygen mask designed especially for animals. The masks were donated to Orange County Fire Rescue by Doglando University, located at 12276 E. Colonial Dr.
Firefighters were able to contain the fire to the garage/laundry room area; the remained of the house sustained heavy smoke damage. The cause of the fire is still undetermined; the preliminary investigation indicates this is an accidental fire.
The residents stated they had smoke detectors, however, fire crews did not hear any audible alarms. Statistics show that working smoke detectors save lives. Orange County Firefighters advocate that all homes have working smoke detectors and they are tested regularly.
