The Information Systems and Services Division is responsible for design, implementation, and support of Orange County Government's technology infrastructure. Public sector technology is one of the most challenging and diversified professional environments in existence, due to evolving standards and products used to deliver a wide range of public services. Planning, flexibility and unwaivering commitment to customer satisfaction are keys to the Division's success in this challenging role.
The ISS Network Systems Unit maintains over 1500 square miles of voice and data network systems supporting the communications infrastructure of Orange County Government. Services include 24 hour 365 days a year support and operation of telephone systems, data networking, voice response, automated attendant, voicemail systems, desktop computer and peripheral systems, telecommunication systems and services, technical field services, network engineering and design, mobility services, service center support, computer training, technical work order coordination, and computing standards.
Project Services is the link between the business requirements and technology solutions for all application system needs. Our team assists with technology planning, evaluation, selection, implementation, and maintenance. We also partner with all of the other ISS units to deliver complete technology solutions.
We partner with our customers to:
Evaluate and acquire new technology. Working with the Purchasing Department, we assist with defining requirements, evaluating alternatives, selecting new products, and negotiating contracts.
Implement new technology solutions. We assist with project plans, resource needs, hardware planning and acquisition, and project management.
Maintain existing technology solutions. We keep the systems running on a day-to-day basis, monitor performance and growth, and assist with system upgrades and enhancements.
Some of our current projects include replacing mainframe systems in Corrections, Growth Management, and Utilities; working with law enforcement and the courts on an integrated criminal justice system; partnering with Health and Family Services to support their Primary Care Access Network (PCAN) efforts; upgrading our Animal Services application; and enhancing our Government Service Center application as their support area grows.
The Enterprise Systems Unit provides 7x24x365 support for Orange County's critical business systems environments running on the mainframe, open systems and Windows servers. Duties include the installation and maintenance of operating systems, disaster recovery, performance monitoring, management of large scale network storage, monitoring system availability, capacity planning, and data integrity through properly securing resources. Services include system software installation and upgrades, database administration, and technical support for business IT initiatives, change control, business continuity planning.
The Regional Computing Center provides a 7X24 secure, controlled environment for Orange County's computer systems. The Center's mission includes the operation, monitoring, and maintenance of computer systems. Services include application software promotion, disaster recovery coordination, physical planning, hardware inventory and maintenance, output distribution, change control, and all ISS project planning participation.
