The Wekiva Parkway and Protection Act enacted by the 2004 Florida Legislature implements the findings and recommendations of the Wekiva River Basin Coordinating Committee, appointed by Governor Bush. The Governor signed The Wekiva Parkway and Protection Act, Part III of Chapter 369, F.S., into law on Tuesday, June 29, 2004, at Wekiva Springs State Park, in Apopka. The Act authorizes building the Wekiva Parkway and provides protection to the Wekiva River system. This act was amended by Senate Bill 908 in the 2005 legislative session.
The Act requires local governments in the Wekiva Study Area to adopt amendments to their comprehensive plans. Orange County adopted these amendments on December 18, 2007.
The Act also requires subsequent implementing land development regulations for the above comprehensive plan amendments.
