Enabling Legislation: Creation of an Affordable Housing Advisory Board was authorized by Section 420.9076, Florida Statutes. On November 3, 1992, the Board of County Commissioners adopted Ordinance No. 92-34 which created the Affordable Housing Advisory Board. On February 20, 2001, the Board adopted Ordinance No. 2001-05 changing the membership from nine to seven members; revising the categories of membership; and amending the advisory board's powers and duties. On May 20, 2008, the Board adopted Ordinance No. 2008-07, changing the membership from seven to eleven members; revising the categories of membership; changing the reporting requirements; and amending the advisory board's powers and duties
Membership: Eleven members appointed by the Board of County Commissioners.

Term Length: 2 Years
Powers and Duties: (a) The Affordable Housing Advisory Board shall review Orange County's established policies and procedures, ordinances, land development regulations, and adopted comprehensive plan and shall report to the Board of County Commissioners on recommended specific initiatives to encourage or facilitate affordable housing while protecting the ability of the property to appreciate in value. Recommendations may include modification, repeal, adoption, or creation of exceptions, to existing policies, procedures, ordinances, regulations, or plan provisions including recommendations to amend the local government comprehensive policy plan and corresponding regulations, ordinances, and other policies.
(b) The advisory board shall make recommendations to the Board of County Commissioners on affordable housing incentives.

Notes: The Affordable Housing Advisory Board shall submit a triennial report of its activities to the Board of County Commissioners by December 31 of the year preceeding the submission of the local housing assistance plan of the local government.
