    Enabling Legislation:
    Authorized by Section 801 of the Orange County Charter, the Citizen Review Board was created by Ordinance No. 95-15, adopted June 27, 1995.

    Membership:
    One member appointed by the County Mayor and each district County Commissioner confirmed by a vote of the Board of County Commissioners. Two members appointed by the Orange County Sheriff (does not require confirmation by the Board of County Commissioners).

    Term Length: 2 Years

    Term Of Office:
    The terms of office of the members of the Citizen Review Board shall be for two years and shall expire at midnight on December 31 of even-numbered years, except that the terms of office of the two appointments by the Office of the Sheriff and the one appointment recommended by the County Mayor shall expire at midnight on December 31 of odd-numbered years. Board members shall not serve for more than two consecutive full terms.

    Powers and Duties:
    The Citizen Review Board has been formed for the following purposes to perform the following duties: A) The CRB shall review citizen complaints and departmental investigations thereof regarding the alleged use of excessive force or abuse of power by any employee of the Office of Sheriff. B) The CRB or any person to whom the CRB delegates the authority may compel the testimony of witnesses and production of evidence through the issuance of subpoenas, and the CRB may administer oaths and take testimony. C) The CRB shall issue to the Office of Sheriff its recommendations. D) Operating procedures are reported to the Board of County Commissioners in accordance with Ordinance 96-09.
