Green Your Event
Take that extra step by offsetting the carbon emissions from your event while increasing Florida's use of renewable energy.

Make your event even more "green" by offsetting your event's carbon emissions through Orange County.  Purchasing these carbon offset credits will help combat climate change on a global level while increasing the use of alternative and renewable energy on a local level. Your contribution of $10 per ton of carbon will go towards energy efficiency and renewable energy projects right here in Orange County.

What is a Carbon Offset?
horizontalbar

A carbon offset is a financial tool that allows you to balance your carbon footprint by supporting projects that reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions that would otherwise be created.  The goal is to become at least carbon neutral with no net increases in GHGs due to your event.

There are six primary GHGs.  Carbon offsets are measured in metric tons of carbon dioxide-equivalent; one carbon offset represents the reduction of one metric ton of carbon dioxide, or its equivalent in other GHGs.

Why offset carbon?

Offsetting the carbon produced offers a way to transition to a clean energy future and support GHG reduction projects.  While carbon offsets will help the global community no matter where they are applied, it is also important to support the transition to alternative energy on a local level.
How it works

Reduce what you can
  • The first step is to reduce your carbon emissions as much as possible.  This will not only help reduce the GHG emissions in the atmosphere, but it can also support local economy and save you money.  For tips on how to "green" your event, see EPA's Green Meetings (External Site).
Calculate
Offset your emissions
  • Finally, offset your carbon emissions through Orange County's Energy Efficiency, Renewable Energy and Conservation Fund (REC Fund) and help combat global climate change by supporting renewable energy projects in the local community.
Our Projects

EPD is actively involved in increasing Orange County's use of solar energy.  Two current projects are:

• Solar Hot Water Incentive Program -- provides a financial incentive of $200 for the installation of a new solar water heating system on residential and commercial properties.

• Photovoltaic (PV) solar panels on the Orange County Convention Center -- a one-megawatt array will be installed on the roof of the Convention Center.  This array will be one of the largest in the southeast, will allow for a substantial savings, and will become a model for clean energy in the community and the nation.  In addition, the new Climate Change Center will be constructed in the Convention Center's south concourse.  This will be an interactive storehouse of the latest information on alternative energies.
