  1. Review your permit history to make sure that you are requesting an extension on a valid permit where construction has not commenced. For additional information, see Orange County Ordinance # 92-3, effective 2/7/92.
  1. Submit a written request to:

Orange County Division of Building Safety
    P.0 Box 2687
    Orlando, FL 32802-2687
    Attention: Extension Processing Section

Such requests must show justifiable cause for the granting of an extension.

The written request must be received by this office prior to the lapse of a six month period from the permit issue date.
  1. A review of the submitted request will be conducted by staff and a reply will be given in response to your request.
  1. If your request is approved, provided construction has not commenced, only one ninety-day extension will be granted and a $30.00 processing fee will be required per permit extension request. Payment can be left at the time of the request or made upon approval notification from this office.
Requesting A Refund Or Cancellation
horizontalbar
  1. Submit the original copy (white receipt) of your permit(s) along with a letter requesting the refund or cancellation of your permit(s) to the Orange County Division of Building Safety. You can do this in person by leaving the permit and accompanying letter with any Building Technician, or by mailing these materials to:

    Orange County Building Safety Division
    P.O.Box 2687
    Orlando, FL 32802-2687
  1. In the event that the original permit (white receipt) is misplaced, a notarized letter must be submitted to the Division of Building Safety in lieu of the original permit when requesting the refund. This letter should state that a refund is being requested from a copy of the permit and that another request will not be forthcoming in the event that the misplaced receipt is located.
  1. Make sure your paid fees are eligible for a refund.
    • Any permit which was issued six months or more prior to a written request for a refund is not eligible.
    • Impact fees will be refunded regardless of when a request is submitted, if applicable.
    • Refunds cannot be made on any permit on which construction has begun, and will not be made on license fees, recording fees or plan submittal fees.
    • Additionally, refunds are not processed on Engineering, Environmental Protection, Fire, Health, Planning, Utilities Engineering & Construction or Zoning fees as stated per the Orange County fee directory.
