Avalon South Economic Development and Resource Management Study
Purpose
horizontalbar

The Study, commonly called the "Innovation Way Study", will establish guiding policies to determine where growth may occur, determine the appropriate environmental controls warranted for these areas, and to ensure that high-tech industries are encouraged for sustainable economic development.  The overall intent of the study is to strike a balance between the need and obligation to protect the area's environmental resources and to provide opportunities for sustainable economic development. Some of the major elements will include framework policies to address the following:

  • Develop a long-range conceptual framework map for southeast Orange County
  • Address smart economic development through the creation of new high value jobs
  • Protect the sensitive environment
  • Partner with transportation authorities to control where growth occurs
Study Area Boundaries

North – SR 528 / Beach Line Expressway
South – Osceola-Orange county line
West – SR 417 / Narcoossee Road

Overview
horizontalbar

In developing the long-range conceptual map, there are several issues to consider to ensure orderly growth and economic sustainability of the area, including:

  • Development pressures on the west side of the Econlockhatchee River corridor
  • Increased infrastructure, such as water/sewer and roads – including the proposed Alafaya Trail Extension
  • Proposed changes to International Corporate Park DRI as mixed use development
  • Environmental issues - water supply/water quality, river protection, and wildlife corridors
  • Alternative water sources of supply, such as the Taylor Creek Reservoir near the St. Johns River, water reuse, and promotion of water conservation techniques
  • Sustainable economic development while protecting the environmental resources
  • Florida High Tech Corridor – Tampa to Daytona Beach
  • Orange County High Tech corridor from Central Florida Research Park south to the Orlando International Airport
  • Measures to encourage high-tech industries to foster sustainable economic development.
