Programs and Services
  • Explorer - The Explorer program is designed for young people interested in the Fire and Rescue field. It allows individuals to learn about the many aspects involved within the fire service. Members participate in training classes, community events, department drills, trips, competitions and will ride along with Fire Rescue crews throughout Orange County. 
     
  • Fire Prevention Activities for School - Fire prevention programs are offered for grades Kindergarten through Twelve.
     
  • Car Seat Checkpoints - To ensure that children are correctly and safely secured in automobiles.
     
  • Children's Burn Foundation - This foundation provides an environment where burned children can share their feelings of being burned, forget that they look different and know that they are someone special.
     
  • Children's Safety Village - Children's Safety Village is a unique educational facility where children encounter safety hazards similar to those found in everyday life.
     
  • Citizen CPR - Join us for free CPR classes in both English and Spanish. Students may sign up for Adult CPR, Pediatric CPR or both.
     
  • Citizens' Fire Academy - Citizens' Fire Academy is a unique educational program designed to provide citizens with an in-depth look at the inner workings of their fire department.
       
  • Community Emergency Response Teams (CERT) - CERT training is designed to prepare you to help yourself, your family and your neighbors in the event of a catastrophic disaster.
       
  • Community Events Request - The Life Safety Education Bureau offers fire and life safety education programs to Orange County residents and visitors, community/social organization, and public/private business group. This includes: fire safety for children/adults, drowning prevention, first aid presentations, bicycle safety, a presentation on the use of 911, fire extinguisher training/demonstration, and pool safety for children.
     
  • Community Sharps Disposal Program - In the home "sharps" are defined as disposable hypodermic needles, syringes, lancets and other medical devices used for self-injection or blood test, which may have a sharp tip or end. This program provides for their safe disposal.
     
  • Headstart Health Screenings - The Life Safety Education Bureau helps Orange County Headstart Centers accomplish federally mandated health screenings for its students. These screenings include height, weight, blood pressure, vision screening, and hearing screenings for 3 and 4-year-old children. For more information, please phone 407-836-9081 or eMail us.
     
  • Home for the Holidays - Through the Home for the Holidays program, Life Safety Education Bureau personnel coordinate the transport of a number of nursing home patients wanting to go home to spend special holidays with their loved ones.   • Home Safety Service - Take a few minutes to conduct a "Home Safety Survey" to identify potential fire hazards in your home. You may use our online Survey or contact our office to request a visit from Fire Rescue personnel to review the survey with you.
       
  • Hug a Bear - Hug a Bear Program is sponsored by Target Stores. Each year, Target hosts a community campaign called, Hugs for Hershey's Kisses. Every time someone purchases Hershey Kisses candies from Target Stores, a percentage of that purchase is allocated towards the Hug-a-Bears. After purchasing the bears, each store donates these bears to their local Emergency Service Providers. These bears are placed on our units and are given to kids who are traumatized during incidents.   • Immunizations - Each year, Orange County Fire Rescue paramedics team up with the Orange County Health Department and the Orange County Immunization Coalition to administer thousands of immunizations in Orange County Schools.  For more information contact the health department at 407.836.2600.
     
  • Juvenile Fire Setters - Established in 1998, the Juvenile Fire-setters Intervention Network was designed to meet the growing need for standardized and effective juvenile fire-setter intervention and prevention.
     
  • Cable TV show F.L.A.M.E.S. - The Orange County Fire Rescue Department writes, tapes, and produces a 30-minute educational TV show called "FLAMES, (Fire, Life and Medical Emergency Services." Created by the Life Safety Education Bureau, FLAMES airs approximately 20 times per month on Orange TV, the county's Government Access Channel. It has a potential viewership of more than 250,000 people. The show's topics include Squad-1 Special Services Unit, Firestar Medical Transport Helicopter, "Juvenile Firesetters", "911 Communication", and "The Many Hats Firefighters Wear."   • Public Access Defibrillation Program - The Public Access Defibrillation Program is designed to place the AED's (Automated External Defibrillators) into public settings, such as, workplaces and public places where groups of people gather. Its function is to break the weak link and bring early defibrillation to an employee or customer within minutes of going into sudden cardiac arrest. The AED is a device that automatically analyzes the heart rhythm of someone in cardiac arrest. It's about the size of a laptop computer, and it actually speaks to you. AEDs are affordable, easy to use, reliable (with a battery life of 5 years), and safe to operate.
