On May 11, 2009 Orange County Mayor Richard T. Crotty conducted a press release outlining the latest developments regarding the Road E project. Select the May 11, 2009 Press Release link below view.
When considering Road "E" Orange County recognized that system interchanges have level of service limitations when it comes to accommodating multiple types of transportation modes. From an overall operational standpoint, Road "E" is anticipated to function initially as a two-lane connector road between Innovation Way North and the Beachline Expressway (SR 528) connecting with the existing interchange at International Corporate Park. After the new Innovation Way/Beachline interchange is constructed and a transit service is established in the area, Road "E" will function as a reliever road for the new interchange by accommodating all transit routes. In addition, Road "E" will provide an alternative bicycle and pedestrian route around what is anticipated to be a busy interchange at Innovation Way and the Beachline Expressway.
Road "E", to be renamed once constructed, is approximately one mile in length with a total right-of-way width of 130 feet and will be constructed in two phases. The first phase will include a two-lane connector road featuring twelve foot travel lanes, curbs and gutters and a stormwater collection system with retention ponds. The phase one roadway facility will provide the much needed connectivity from Innovation Way North to the Beachline Expressway while the new interchange is being constructed. As travel demand directs, the second phase of Road "E" will add a single travel lane in both directions on the outside of the Phase One travel lanes. The Phase One travel lanes will be converted to dedicated transit lanes creating a multimodal transportation facility. Ultimately, the second phase of the Road "E" corridor will facilitate vehicular traffic, transit, pedestrians and bicyclists. The following links represent concepts for both phases of Road "E".
