Final design activities are underway to prepare construction plans, specifications, and right-of-way maps for the proposed Holden Avenue Improvements from John Young Parkway to Orange Blossom Trail (OBT). The plans will address roadway, drainage, signals, traffic signing and pavement markings, landscaping, and maintenance of traffic details for the proposed improvements. The right-of-way maps will detail the additional right-of-way required for the project.

When completed, Holden Avenue will be extended from Texas Avenue to John Young Parkway as a four-lane divided roadway with a raised landscape median. Existing Holden Avenue from Texas to OBT will be widened to also provide a four-land divided section.

The existing drainage ditches between Texas and Rio Grande will be replaced with an enclosed storm sewer and two retention ponds will be constructed to treat the stormwater. Pond 1 will be located north of the proposed Holden Avenue near John Young Parkway. Pond 3 will be located south of Holden Avenue near Lake Tyler.

Holden Avenue is located within the jurisdictions of the South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD). The construction of the surface water management system will require permitting through the SFWMD and must also comply with Orange County requirements. The permit requirements will address the design and construction of the roadway and ponds.

The final design also includes plans for maintaining traffic flow during construction and providing access to adjacent properties during construction. Other design activities include landscaping plans, traffic signal design and traffic signs and pavement markings.
