On April 8, 2003 the Orange County Board of County Commissioners (BCC) approved the County Road 535 (CR 535) Preliminary Engineering (PE) Study. The study considered the engineering, social and environmental impacts and established the first of a three-phase roadway widening condition that includes CR 535 from Marleon Drive to State Road 429 (Western Beltway) and a portion of Ficquette Road (Segments A through E) see location map. Segments A through E are in the design phase of roadway development.
Roadway connectivity is an integral component for the success of Horizon West and is the focal point of this preliminary engineering study for Segments F through M. Travel projections for this study area confirm that traffic volumes, congestion and travel delays will continue to increase if no physical improvements are made to the roadway network. Segments F through M are further defined as:
Segment F - Ficquette Road, from approximately 1,900 feet south of CR 535, extending generally south to approximately 600 feet west of the intersection with Overstreet Road.
Segment G - Ficquette Road, from approximately 600 feet west of the intersection with Overstreet Road, extending southwest to approximately 1,600 feet southwest of the intersection with Overstreet Road.
Segment H-1 - Ficquette Road, from approximately 1,600 feet southwest of the intersection with Overstreet Road to approximately 3,500 feet north of the Reams Road/Lake Hancock Road intersection (also approximately located at the south entrance to the Independence residential development).
Segment H-2 - Ficquette Road, from approximately 3,500 feet north of the Reams Road/Lake Hancock Road intersection (also approximately located at the south entrance to the Independence residential development) to the Reams Road/Lake Hancock Road intersection. Reams Road, from the Ficquette Road/Lake Hancock Road intersection, extending approximately 1,000 feet south, and extending westerly approximately 1,000 feet from the southern limits on Reams Road.
Segment J - Summerlake Bldv, Parallel to Porter Road, approximately 1,100 feet to the south; from approximately 1,000 feet west of the southern limits on Reams Road, crossing Lake Hancock Road, and extending west to Phil Ritson Way, approximately 800 feet south of the Porter Road/Phil Ritson Way intersection.
Segment L: Porter Road, from approximately 4,200 feet east of CR 545 to the Porter Road/CR 545 intersection, and from approximately 4,200 feet east of CR 545 north to McKinney Road, approximately 1,700 feet east of the future interchange with State Road (SR) 429 (Western Beltway).
