The Orange County Roadway Lighting Program has been developed to light approximately 395 miles of County arterial roadways.
Arterial roadways are major roads throughout the County. Most of these roads will be lighted by year 2008. The local power companies, Progress Energy or Orlando Utilities Commission (OUC), are designing, installing and maintaining the lighting systems. The Roadway Lighting Program is funded through gas taxes. There are no direct costs to property owners. Roadways to be widened will be lighted after construction.
The power companies are using existing power poles where possible and concrete poles where there are no power poles. Aluminum poles are installed on roadway sections that do not have curb and gutter.
A cut-off fixture is being used which directs light to the road and sidewalk. This greatly reduces unwanted light shining on drivers and nearby properties.
MSTU Residential Street Lighting
Municipal Service Taxing Units, or MSTUs can be utilized to provide lighting on local residential streets or in a subdivision. To find out more information about MSTUs please visit the Orange County Comptroller's web site. |
