The Solid Waste Division is responsible for providing efficient and effective solid waste management services in Orange County. The Orange County Landfill began operations in 1971 and currently accepts over 3,100 tons of waste per day, making it the largest publicly owned and operated landfill in Florida. The Solid Waste Division also operates household hazardous waste facilities and two solid waste transfer stations. The division is responsible for managing the residential garbage, yard waste and recycling collection program for single-family homes in unincorporated Orange County.
Recently, the Solid Waste Division completed a major expansion to the Landfill in order to meet the community's disposal needs for the next 25 years. The expansion included the development of over 480 acres for the disposal of Class I waste and support facilities, including a scalehouse, maintenance shop and employee facilities. The Solid Waste Division is developing a master plan for waste disposal which could extend the use of the current landfill site well into the 21st century. |
