Orange County's source of drinking water is the Floridan Aquifer, one of the most productive freshwater aquifers in the world. The Floridan Aquifer is fed by rainwater that is filtered through hundreds of feet of sand and rock. This natural filtering process produces water that is of consistently high quality. The Water Division's 10 water treatment facilities produce 20.9 billion gallons of water annually that are distributed through 1,703 miles of pipeline to 144,062 customers in unincorporated Orange County, the Town of Windermere, and portions of several other municipalities in Orange County.
In addition to providing drinking water and water for fire protection through 8,835 hydrants, the Water Division operates a laboratory that is certified by the Florida Department of Health and Rehabilitative Services and the Florida Department of Environmental Protection for analysis of drinking water and other environmental waters. |
