The observance of May as Clean Air Month is designed to raise public awareness about the importance of clean air, the need for everyone to work to reduce air pollution and increase the availability of cleaner electrical energy, and transportation options.
In accordance with the county's "Orange to Green" Climate Change Initiative, Orange County has committed to take actions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and increase energy efficiency.
The "Orange to Green" Climate Change Initiative will provide multiple local benefits by improving air quality and decreasing air pollution, reducing energy expenditures, saving money for the government, its businesses, and its citizens, preserving green spaces, reducing traffic congestion, improving transportation choices, and expanding economic development and job creation through energy conservation and new energy technologies.
The health of our citizens and visitors can be adversely affected by poor air quality.
Transportation issues are connected to the quality of the air we breathe.
Orange County has made a commitment to reduce carbon dioxide emissions in the County's operations by 40% by the year 2020.
Good air quality is a vital component related to the economic health and quality of life in Orange County.
Orange County Mayor Richard T. Crotty, by virtue of the authority vested in him as Orange County Mayor, does hereby proclaim the month of May 2008 as Clean Air Month in Orange County, Florida, and encourages all citizens and businesses to take actions to help maintain our clean air for the betterment of the county and the region.
