Orange County Celebrates Arbor Day

Orange County Enviromental Protection Division and Cooperative Extension receive the proclamation from Mayor Crotty and the County Commissioners.

National Arbor Day began in 1872 with the planting of more than one million trees in Nebraska.

The planting and nurturing of trees reduces erosion, cuts heating and cooling costs, moderates temperatures, cleans the air, produces oxygen, and provides wildlife habitat.

Trees increase property values, enhance the economic vitality of business areas, and beautify our community.Orange County is committed to the health of its urban tree canopy and employs arborists dedicated to tree protection.Orange County spends more than two million dollars annually to support the care and planting of trees.

Orange County has committed to strengthen its tree protection and removal ordinance. Orange County is a designated Tree City USA.

Orange County Mayor Richard T. Crotty, by virtue of the authority vested in him as Orange County Mayor, does hereby proclaim Friday, April 25, 2008, as ARBOR DAY in Orange County, Florida, and calls upon all citizens to support efforts to protect and nurture our community's trees and to plant trees to gladden hearts, provide wildlife habitat, and promote the well being of this and future generations.
