Orange County FL.: District 6 Commissioner Tiffany Moore Russell and Orange County Fire Chief Carl L. Plaugher will celebrate the success of community programs in Tangelo Park this Saturday, August 9, 2008. The community event will recognize over 20 youth who have completed a safe swimming program provided by the Central Florida YMCA. Saturday’s event will also kick off a major campaign to install Carbon Monoxide Detectors in neighborhood homes. Citizens at Saturday’s event will have the opportunity to sign up for the newly formed Tangelo Park Community Emergency Response Team (CERT).
Local hotelier Harris Rosen played a large part in funding these three safety initiatives as well as identifying the best community to receive them. Mr. Rosen worked with Fireman’s Fund Insurance Company and local insurers Halcyon Underwriting and ProvInsure to finance these programs. Fire Chief Carl Plaugher said, “We are able to offer these vital life safety programs to the community by partnering with non-profit organizations, such as the YMCA, and local business. We thank Harris Rosen for helping bring us all together.”
Saturday’s event will take place at 10AM at the Tangelo Park YMCA located at 5160 Pueblo Street in Orlando. Following the swim students’ graduation, Orange County Firefighters will begin going door to door installing Carbon Monoxide Alarms in homes.
