WHEREAS, WUCF's original FM application called for a station (at the time called WFTU) to operate at 89.9 megahertz and named the license holder as Florida Technological University and the Florida Board of Regents; and
WHEREAS, on April 1, 1978, the first non-commercial educational FM broadcast station license was issued to the Board of Regents acting for and on behalf of Florida Technological University; and
WHEREAS, on May 15, 1979, the university requested a station call-letter change to WUCF-FM, to more accurately reflect the name of the license holder, now known as the University Of Central Florida, and the name change was officially granted by the FCC on September 12, 1979; and
WHEREAS, over the next 10 years, broadcast power was increased from the original strength that just covered the UCF east campus to the current coverage that reaches the entire Central Florida listening area; and
WHEREAS, instrumental in the success and growth of the station were Dr. Robert Arnold of Instructional Resources and Mr. Keith Fowles in the School of Communications, as well as many students and community volunteers; and
WHEREAS, in 1994, the Corporation for Public Broadcasting notified WUCF-FM that it had qualified for grant recipient status, and the grant monies funded full membership with National Public Radio and Public Radio International; and
WHEREAS, in 1997, with approval from the College of Arts and Sciences, WUCF's programming transitioned to the daily jazz and NPR format it currently offers;
WHEREAS, it is the desire of the Orange County Board of County Commissioners to recognize WUCF-FM for its dedication, professionalism and commitment on the 30th anniversary of its radio broadcast in Central Florida;
NOW, THEREFORE, Be It Resolved by the Board of County Commissioners, Orange County, Florida, that WUCF-FM is hereby recognized and duly honored for its outstanding contributions to this community.
