  • Affordable by Design - State of Washington Department of Economic Development webpage that furthers public awareness of well-designed, affordable and higher density housing. Featured on this page through case studies are a variety of housing developments, both market rate and subsidized, that meet a number of criteria such as affordability, good design, proximity to shopping, work and other services, pedestrian friendliness, and orientation to transit. The site also has publications and information on best practices for achieving affordable and attractive high-density housing.
  • Affordable Housing Design Advisor - Good design can make a world of difference for the people who will live in the affordable housing you help build, and for the neighborhood surrounding it. The Affordable Housing Design Advisor brings together experience and ideas from successful affordable housing projects all over the country, and the people who developed, designed and built them. 
  • Affordable Housing Finance - Provides news, resources and ideas for the affordable housing and multifamily housing industries.
  • Affordable Housing Institute -  Innovates sustainable improvements in local housing finance by working with governments, parastatals, NGOs and stakeholders to design, develop, pilot, and improve housing finance policies and programs.
  • Affordable Housing Whois - An industry-specific, searchable database to be created by industry participants. Businesses, non-profits, housing authorities and individuals such as consultants and professionals can include themselves in the database.
  • American Fact Finder - The US Census Bureau's data site. Data are available for the 1990 and 2000 Censuses of Population and Housing as well as the annual American Community Survey.
  • American Planning Association (APA) Affordable Housing Reader - More than 100 documents and articles from APA publications that examine the affordable housing problem in the US and identify and evaluate various solutions. These articles appear in this Affordable Housing Reader, which is accessible to all visitors to the APA website.
  • Brookings Institution - A Washington, DC-based private nonprofit organization devoted to independent research and innovative policy solutions. Included in their publication Rethinking Local Affordable Housing Strategies: Lessons from 70 Years of Policy and Practice is a matrix that provides a synopsis of how well various housing approaches advance each of the seven basic goals of an affordable housing policy:
    1. Preserve and expand the supply of good-quality housing units. 
    2. Make existing housing more affordable and more readily available. 
    3. Promote racial and economic diversity in residential neighborhoods. 
    4. Help households build wealth. 
    5. Strengthen families. 
    6. Link housing with essential supportive services. 
    7. Promote balanced metropolitan growth.
  • Center for Housing Research at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University - An interdisciplinary research and information resource on housing for the Commonwealth of Virginia. The Center provides data services related to housing to local and state governments, nonprofit organizations and for-profit businesses.
  • Center for Housing Policy - The research affiliate of the National Housing Conference. Website offers access to many CHP publications and tools, including Paycheck to Paycheck, an online, interactive database that presents wage information for more than 60 occupations and home prices and rents for nearly 200 metropolitan areas.
  • Center for Regional Analysis (CRA) - Conducts research and analytical studies on economic, fiscal, demographic, and social and policy issues related to the current and future growth of the Virginia, Maryland, and DC areas.
  • Citizens Housing and Planning Association (CHAPA) - The non-profit umbrella organization for affordable housing and community development activities throughout Massachusetts.
  • Coalition for Low Income Housing (CLIH) - Dedicated to preserving and creating affordable housing for low-income individuals and families throughout California's Central Coast through innovative collaborative partnerships and innovative community solutions.
  • Community Housing Resource Center (CHRC) - Provides direct service as well as information and technical assistance to Low-income individuals (primarily seniors and disabled adults with housing problems) and communities not served by traditional markets; design professionals by providing opportunities for public interest work; and the University system and community-based organizations by providing service learning opportunities. The CHRC includes an Affordable Housing Directory of agencies and organizations involved with the provision of housing.
  • Council for Affordable and Rural Housing (CARH) - A non-profit trade organization. For over 20 years, CARH has served as an advocate for participants in the affordable rural housing profession.
  • Cyburbia - An urban planning website with resource directories on planning-related subjects, including Housing.
  • Department of Community Affairs Housing page (DCA) - The state's growth management agency. Their Housing page provides information on DCA programs, as well as links to other housing resources.
  • Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) - HUD's website includes information about federal housing programs and links to other housing resources.
  • Design Matters – The City Design Center at the University of Illinois at Chicago compiled this Internet catalog of exemplary affordable housing located throughout the US. The website features an interactive design catalog that can be searched by criteria including design objectives (including meeting high aesthetic standards, reducing construction costs, and promoting energy efficiency) or project type (including types ranging from single family detached housing to single-room occupancy (SRO) housing).
  • Employer Assisted Housing - This EAH site formerly was known as the American Affordable Housing Institute (AAHI) and Employer Assisted Housing site hosted by the Edward J. Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy at Rutgers. The Bloustein School now refers people looking for information about employer-assisted housing to this site. This EAH site provides basic information as well as links to employer-assisted housing programs, resources and events.
  • Enterprise - A nonprofit group that develops and supports innovative models that give people with limited incomes the tools to become self-sufficient. Enterprise also offers financial products and services that support affordable housing and community development, and Enterprise is an advocate for federal and local policy in support of affordable housing and community development.
  • Fannie Mae (the Federal National Mortgage Association) - A federally chartered, stockholder owned corporation that supports the secondary market for both conventional mortgages and mortgages insured by the FHA and guaranteed by VA. Fannie Mae's goal is to help more families achieve homeownership. They accomplish this goal by providing financial products and services that make it possible for low-, moderate-, and middle-income families to buy homes of their own. Fannie Mae's Knowledgeplex is an affordable housing and community development resource for local governments and others in the housing business. Fannie Mae also has an Employer-Assisted Housing (EAH) Initiative.
  • Florida Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials (FAHRO) -The Florida Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials, was established over 60 years ago as a means of exchanging information for the purpose of improving low income and affordable housing and community services. 
  • Florida Building Codes and Standards - Staffs the Florida Building Commission, which is responsible for the Florida Building Code.
  • Florida Coalition for the Homeless - An organization committed to putting an end to homelessness and improving the conditions of persons living without shelter. The Coalition provides information; develops and disseminates best practices, model programs and standards; and monitors public policies and funding shifts that affect homeless people
  • Florida Community Capital Corporation/Florida Community Partners (FCP) - A statewide not-for-profit organized by 16 national and region banks to work with government and private funding for affordable housing development.
  • Florida Community Loan Fund -  Florida's only statewide, federally certified community development financial institution. We provide financing to support affordable housing, economic development and essential social services.
  • Florida Housing Coalition - A nonprofit, statewide membership organization whose mission is to act as a catalyst to bring together housing advocates and resources so that all Floridians have a quality affordable home and suitable living environment.
  • Florida Housing Finance Corporation - A public corporation of the state of Florida that offers homeownership programs, multifamily development programs, predevelopment and demonstration project loans, and technical assistance for local governments and nonprofits. The Corporation also administers the State Housing Initiatives Partnership (SHIP) Program.
  • Florida Resource Directory - One-stop source for learning about the latest state and many federal programs and resources to help your local community.
  • Freddie Mac (Federal Home Loan Mortgage Corporation) - A federally chartered stockholder owned corporation that supports the secondary market for conventional mortgages.
  • Green Affordable Housing Program - The Green Affordable Housing Initiative aims to catalyze the affordable housing financing, development, and builder communities to include more green design and renewable energy in future developments.
  • Habitat for Humanity® International - A nonprofit, nondenominational Christian housing organization that builds simple, decent, affordable houses in partnership with those who lack adequate shelter. Habitat has built more than 175, 000 houses since 1976 through local Habitat affiliates, which coordinate house building and select partner families.
  • Home Builders Association of Northern California (HBANC) - A professional, non-profit association representing homebuilders, trade contractors, suppliers and industry professionals in 14 northern California counties. HBANC recently partnered with the Non-Profit Housing Association of Northern California to develop a joint policy statement on inclusionary zoning, On Common Ground.
  • Housing Arizona's Workforce - A partnership of the Arizona Association of REALTORS®, the Arizona REALTORS® Housing Needs Foundation (ARHNF) and Fannie Mae, focusing on Fannie Mae's Employer-Assisted Housing (EAH) Initiative, which is designed to assist employers in developing an EAH benefit to help their employees purchase a home.
  • Municipal Research and Services Center (MRSC) - A non-profit, independent organization created in 1969 to continue programs established in 1934 under the Bureau of Governmental Research at the University of Washington. Their mission is working together for excellence in local government through professional consultation, research and information services.
  • Housing Partnership Network - The Housing Partnership Network is a peer network and business cooperative of 87 of the most accomplished affordable housing nonprofits in the country. Our members operate on a citywide or regional basis and share a similar public/private business model that forges entrepreneurial partnerships among the business, community, and government sectors to create and sustain affordable housing.
  • Housing Affordability Calculator - Estimate how much house the user can afford based upon annual income, monthly debt, cash available for down payment, property tax and home insurance rate, and loan terms.
  • Innovative Housing Institute - Created in 1996 by housing professionals with extensive experience in developing, financing and managing affordable housing in a mixed income setting.
  • Joint Center for Housing Studies - Harvard University's center for information and research on housing in the United States. The Joint Center analyzes the dynamic relationships between housing markets and economic, demographic, and social trends, providing leaders in government, business, and the non-profit sector with the knowledge needed to develop effective policies and strategies.
  • Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC) - Helps resident-led, community-based development organizations transform distressed communities and neighborhoods into healthy ones. By providing capital, technical expertise, training and information, LISC supports the development of local leadership and the creation of affordable housing, commercial, industrial and community facilities, businesses and jobs.
  • Low-Income Housing Tax Credit Novogradac & Company - A national certified public accounting and consulting firm. Included on their website is this resource page for the Low Income Housing Tax Credit Program.
  • Municipal Research & Services Center of Washington (MRSC) - A non-profit, independent organization created in 1969 to continue programs established in 1934 under the Bureau of Governmental Research at the University of Washington. The Center offers professional consultation, research and information services.
  • National Association of Affordable Housing Lenders - Represents America's leaders in moving private capital to those in need. Started in 1990, NAAHL encompasses 200 organizations committed to increasing private lending and investing in low- and moderate-income communities, including banks, thrifts, insurance companies, community development corporations, mortgage companies, loan consortia, financial intermediaries, pension funds, foundations, local and national nonprofits, and public agencies.
  • National Affordable Housing Training Institute (NAHTI) - A non-profit organization composed of seven national public interest groups (listed on site) who provide technical assistance and training to their respective members in the area of affordable housing. NAHTI is currently funded through a cooperative agreement with the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to provide TA and training related to the HOME Investment Partnerships (HOME) Program.
  • National Affordable Housing Management Association - An advocate for multifamily property owners and managers whose mission is to provide quality affordable housing.
  • National Affordable Housing Network - An independent non-profit that provides research, evaluation, design, education, information and policy and program design assistance to those who are working to change the way low-cost housing is built for disadvantaged Americans.
  • National Coalition for the Homeless - A national network of activists and advocates, community-based and faith-based service providers, people who are currently experiencing or who have experienced homelessness, and others committed to ending homelessness.
  • National Housing Conference - A public policy and affordable housing advocacy organization for national policies and legislation that promote suitable housing in a safe, decent environment. NHC's nonprofit research affiliate, the Center for Housing Policy, works to broaden understanding of America's affordable housing challenges and examines the impact of policies and programs developed to address these needs.
  • National Housing Trust Fund Campaign - Working to establish a National Housing Trust Fund that would build and preserve 1.5 million units of rental housing for the lowest income families over the next 10 years.
  • National Low Income Housing Coalition - A national nonprofit organization dedicated to ending America's affordable housing crisis. NLIHC focuses its advocacy on those with the most serious housing problems, the lowest income households. The NLIHC policy agenda is organized around four priority areas: resident issues, production, saving housing resources and housing plus services.
  • National Modular Housing Council -  Created to provide modular manufacturers, suppliers and builders a national voice to facilitate policies and programs beneficial to both the industry and consumers of modular homes. This is accomplished through industry unity, advancement of legislation and regulation, and industry and consumer education.
  • National Multi Housing Council - The apartment industry's leading advocate and strategic consultant. Their website provides research data and publications related to multi-family housing issues.
  • National Governors Association (NGA) Center for Best Practices -  Focuses on state innovations and best practices on issues that range from housing and health to education, technology, welfare reform, and the environment. NGA also provides management and technical assistance to both new and incumbent governors.
  • Nonprofit Housing Roundtable - Is an central Florida organization that works to increase coordination among nonprofits to enhance capabilities, expand funding opportunities, maximize training, and develop new partnerships. The Roundtable website includes a directory of local nonprofits and other agencies and organizations that provide housing and services in central Florida.
  • PolicyLink - A national nonprofit research, communications, capacity building, and advocacy organization working to advance policies to achieve economic and social equity. PolicyLink collaborates with a broad range of partners to implement strategies to ensure that everyone—including those from low-income communities of color—can contribute to and benefit from economic growth and prosperity. Among our regional equity approaches is equitable development, a comprehensive local, regional, and state framework emphasizing equitable public investment, the fair distribution of affordable housing, and community strategies to improve health.   • Regulatory Barriers Clearinghouse at HUD - A source for solutions to state and local regulatory barriers to affordable housing.
  • Rental Housing On Line (RHOL) - an on-line encyclopedia of rental housing and real estate investing subjects.
  • Shimberg Center for Affordable Housing at UF - established at the University of Florida in 1988. The Center's mission is to facilitiate the provision of safe, decent, and affordable housing and related community development throughout the state of Florida. The Center's Affordable Housing Issues newsletters provide timely information on housing topics, and the Florida Housing Data Clearinghouse, which was founded in 2000, provides public access to data on Florida's housing needs and supply, subsidized rental housing, and household demographics.
