ADA COORDINATOR

Pay Grade: 016

FLSA Status: Exempt 

General Functions
   Highly responsible administrative planning work facilitating and directing Orange County’s compliance with Title I and III of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Serves as a technical advisor to County departments, divisions and offices on ADA issues and serves as a staff liaison to the Disability Advisory Board (DAB) and monitors ADA compliance.

Work is performed under the direction of the Deputy Director, Health & Family Services or designee. Performance is reviewed through conferences, written reports and for achievement of desired results.
 
Representative Duties /Assignments
  
  • Plans and coordinates overall compliance efforts and involves persons with disabilities and interested parties in the compliance process.
  • Reviews existing policies, procedures, programs and services, recommends changes to facilitate ADA compliance. Discusses compliance with key County Administration staff and community leaders. Develops for approval the process for determining undue burden.
  • Provides input on and coordinates responses to complaints lodged by persons with disabilities. Responsible for program monitoring and problem resolutions with regard to facilities accessibility, employment, communications, transportation and services. Investigates complaints of fair treatment under ADA.
  • Reviews or develops a policy for holding meetings that are accessible and meet ADA requirements. Ensures that policies and procedures are in place for providing reasonable accommodations for effective communication, and written materials in alternative formats.
  • Makes recommendations for funding, legislation, etc. that are necessary to fully address all barriers or deficiencies identified. Develop a transition plan to reflect progress being made.
  • Identifies areas for collaboration and partnership with other agencies to facilitate compliance and coordinate Orange County’s internal activities concerning persons with disabilities.
 
Minimum Qualifications
   Bachelor’s degree in Planning, Public Administration, Human Resources Management or a closely related field and five years experience in government and regulatory compliance administration to include experience working with persons with disabilities to ensure access to public accommodations, transportation, and communications or disabilities related experience.

Must possess knowledge of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 as revised.
 
Preferences
   Knowledge of Florida’s accessibility law, civil rights laws, and other nondiscrimination law.
