ACCREDITATION PROJECT COORDINATOR

Pay Grade: 017

FLSA Status: Exempt 

General Functions
   Organize and direct Department resources and activities to achieve and maintain American Correctional Association accreditation award.

Distinguishing Characteristics of Work

This employee would administer a process to enhance and improve Department operations, act as a liaison between the Department and American Correctional Association, and organize and implement Department resources and activities to achieve accreditation. An employee in this classification would perform research, analysis and evaluations or programs, projects and operational procedures.

Duties include creating or refining written policies and procedures to be consistent in all areas of the Department; and developing, composing and submitting reports and correspondence relative to all functional and operational areas of the Department. Considerable initiative and sound judgment are required to independently carry out responsibilities. Strong verbal and written communicative skills are required.
 
Representative Duties /Assignments
  
  • Conducts in-depth studies and analysis on six hundred nationally recognized standards to determine areas of knowledge and special skills needed in the development of policies and procedures.
  • Develops and organizes a comprehensive policy and procedure manual consistent with nationally recognized standards.
  • Coordinates and directs Accreditation Support Team meetings consisting of division/unit representatives at mid-management level to facilitate the development of policies and procedures.
  • Ensures, through an internal information exchange, that Department staff are provided with timely responses to inquires about standards and processes.
  • Designs and implements a filing system that includes copies of compliance checklists and all appropriate materials required to support compliance.
  • Accumulates primary and secondary documentation to demonstrate continuous compliance with Department policies and procedures.
  • Determines what actions are necessary to comply with standards, develops plans to implement the required procedures and ensures compliance through the management system.
  • Prepares and submits correspondence and reports to the American Correctional Association within designated time frames.
  • Supervises subordinates through effective communication, delegation, and follow-up; completes employee evaluations in a timely manner; and assumes full responsibility in the absence of the unit supervisor.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or as necessary.
 
Minimum Qualifications
   Graduation from and accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in Business or Public Administration, Criminal Justice or a closely related field and two years of management, administrative or supervisory experience in a correctional facility. Additional years of the specified experience may be substituted for the required education on a year for year basis.
