Orange County Mayor Hosts Jazz in the Park for Service Organizations

Community & Services

Orange County, FL – Orange County Mayor Teresa Jacobs recently hosted the third annual Jazz in the Park event at Cypress Grove Park to honor Orange County’s service and volunteer organizations.

“Public service and volunteerism are important threads in the fabric of the Orange County community,” Mayor Jacobs said. “The efforts of volunteers and service groups enrich the lives of so many citizens and create a strong foundation for our community.”

Nearly 300 guests sat on the lawn and mingled under the pavilion next to the lakeside stage while taking in the cool sounds of the Jazzway Express band, The Dave Capp Project featuring France Neil and the Eastside Combo. Guests also enjoyed delicious food from several food trucks at the event.

Members of City Year were recognized on stage for their hard work and dedication in helping Orange County Public Schools students excel. City Year has 60 highly skilled corps members placed at Evans High School, Meadowbrook Middle School, Memorial Middle School, Oak Ridge High School, and Walker Middle School in an effort to decrease drop-out rates.

City Year is an education-focused, nonprofit organization founded in 1988 which partners with public schools and teachers to help keep students in school and on track to succeed. Corps members provide individual support to students who need extra care and attention, focusing on attendance, behavior, and course performance through in-class tutoring, mentoring, and after school programs.
