County Road 535 RCA

To accommodate anticipated traffic demands and improve roadway safety.

SAP?

The Village of Bridgewater is the first privately funded and initiated Specific Area Plan (SAP) that was approved on March 2, 1999 by the Orange County Board of County Commissioners. Bridgewater SAP provides for adequate public facilities required to support the proposed development.

Why?

The objective of the corridor analysis was to provide economically and technically feasible engineering alternatives for the roadway and right-of-way improvements necessary to accommodate anticipated traffic demands and improve roadway safety.

Now what?

CR 535 and Ficquette Road is currently a two-lane roadway within the study limits, which includes an open stormwater drainage system. It was recommended to widen CR 535 and Ficquette Road to a four-lane divided roadway (two lanes of traffic in each direction):

  • 11-foot wide traffic lanes.
  • A 44-foot raised landscaped median.
  • A 5-foot wide sidewalk on the east side of the roadway (north side of Segment D).
  • 10-foot wide multipurpose path on the west side (south side of Segment D).
  • Roadway lighting.
  • Curb and gutter on each side of the road.
  • Closed, underground stormwater conveyance system requiring.
  • Three new retention ponds and the joint use of two existing ponds.
  • The project typical section for CR 535 Segments C through E provides for a 120-foot right-of-way to accommodate the proposed improvements.

Change because

  • Deficiencies in existing and expected traffic operations.
  • The ability to meet the demand of anticipated future development in the area.
  • Providing consistency with the goals, objectives, and policies of the Orange County Comprehensive Policy Plan.

And Now

  • Construction of Segments D and D-1 was completed September 2009.
  • Construction for Segment A is tentatively scheduled to commence by January 2011.
  • Segments C and E construction commenced July 2009 and are expected to be completed by October 2010.
  • Future updates will provide additional information on these Segments as it becomes available.
