Description

Avalon Road (C.R. 545) is planned to be widened from two lanes to four lanes along the segment between U.S. 192 and Hartzog Road, covering approximately 1.6 miles. The project will add a sidewalk on the east side of the roadway and a shared‑use path on the west side. Additional improvements will include upgraded drainage, new traffic signals, enhanced lighting, intersection upgrades, and landscaping. The design will be in general accordance with the Roadway Conceptual Analysis Report dated March 2024 and approved by the Board of County Commissioners.

Purpose

This roadway widening project is intended to enhance safety and increase capacity to accommodate future travel demands. Pedestrian and bicycle safety will also be improved through the addition of a sidewalk and a shared‑use path.

Status

The design phase is anticipated to be completed in spring of 2027.

As part of the permitting process, the original Roadway Conceptual Analysis is being reevaluated and updated to a Project Development and Environment (PD&E) study by June 28, 2026.
