About District 4 Commissioner Maribel Gomez Cordero

Commissioner Maribel Gomez Cordero was born and raised in the beautiful island of Puerto Rico. She has been living in Central Florida for the past twenty-three years. She has been married to Henry Cordero for 33 years and is the proud mother of Marian, Henry, and Erik.

Commissioner Gomez Cordero earned a Master’s Degree from Webster University in Clinical Mental Health Counseling specializing in Marriage and Family.

Throughout her career, she has worked for Children’s Home Society/Department of Children & Families, as a Case Manager and Dependency Unit Supervisor, and as a Clinical Therapist for Life & Work Solutions Counseling. Commissioner Gomez Cordero has always dedicated herself to work for those who experience crisis, and provides support to individuals, families and groups within her community. She is very passionate to help and assist others, and believes that these individuals are the cornerstone in ensuring that Orange County continues on a brighter path towards its future.

Commissioner Gomez Cordero has received several recognitions for her dedication and service to Orange County Central Florida community. She was honored to be recognized in 2002 by the Educational Foundation for the Advancement of Child Welfare with “A Person That Makes A Difference” Award by the Florida Coalition for Children of Central Florida. In addition she has been recognized by several others such as; “Special Congressional Recognition for Outstanding and Invaluable service to the community” by The United States of America Congressional Record 2014 and Congressman Alan Grayson, “Member of the Year 2015 Award” by The Hispanic Women Chamber of Commerce of Central Florida, “Commitment and Dedication to our community Women Empowering Women Recognition 2015 by Florida Technical College Central Florida and others.

Commissioner Gomez Cordero continues to be active as she volunteers and serve as member of different agencies within the community. She is the Director of the Counseling, Coaching and Mentoring Department at CDA Orlando. She is an Advisor and Board Member for Victim of Domestic Violence and Sexual Abuse Program at Nuevo Sendero. She volunteer for feeding the Homeless with Miles of Help through Christ and CDA Ministries, and is a Board Member of CDA Orlando Church for two terms 2002-2006 and 2016 to present. Commissioner Gomez Cordero was honored with the Key of the City of Ceiba, where the Commissioner grew up, as well as receiving a special recognition by the Mayor of such city, Hon. Angelo Cruz Ramos. The Puerto Rico House of Representatives recognized Commissioner Gomez Cordero for her leadership and compromise with the community, honoring with a special motion signed by the Speaker of the Puerto Rico House of Representatives, Hon. Carlos “Johnny” Méndez.

In addition, Commissioner Gomez Cordero provides conferences and support groups based on mental health issues within the community. She also teaches Leadership and Counseling classes at the Multicultural Theological Institute AOG.

Commissioner Gomez Cordero continues working in the beautiful community of District 4 and currently is the bridge and the voice that connects the County with the Community.

Gomez Cordero continues to work with families in the community as this has always been her passion, but not only she does what she loves – she also inspires others to do the same.
