Orange County is committed to the highest level of customer service for its Permitting Services. In 2011, Mayor Teresa Jacobs established a Permitting Services office by offering permitting activities from one central location - the Orange County Government Administration Center at 201 S. Rosalind Avenue in downtown Orlando. With many of the County divisions that review construction plans available in one location, Permitting Services offers customers a "one-stop shop" approach.
Also, throughout 2011 and 2012, the County completed two significant initiatives which will yield benefits for the citizens and contractors that do business with Orange County. First, Mayor Jacobs established the Regulatory Streamlining Task Force to review County permitting regulations and processes, with the goal of supporting job growth and economic development by eliminating duplicative regulations, reducing process times and improving customer service. The Regulatory Streamlining Task Force offered a number of recommendations to the Board of County Commissioners. The Mayor and the Board have already implemented many of the task force recommendations including a continued investment in technology, improved project tracking, and expanded customer services such as pre-application meetings. Many other recommendations will be implemented throughout 2013.
Mayor Jacobs’s commitment to customer service coincided with the Open for Business initiative led by MyRegion.org. This regional initiative focused on developing minimum standards of permitting across a geographic footprint that included seven counties and 86 cities. All seven counties, including Orange County, and twenty-four cities agreed on common permitting standards, including:

- Time is of the Essence
- Minimize Approval Steps
- Process Improvements
- Post Project Approval
Orange County's commitment to these principles is reflected in its Permitting Standards. These include service targets for project review, customer education, and employee training. Working with regional partners, Orange County will continue to investigate opportunities for consistent and streamlined permit applications.
