Description

The Zoning Division is required to review residential fence permits by Orange County. All residential fence permit applications are reviewed for compliance with the County’s land development regulations. Fence Permits are reviewed for proper placement, height and other specific standards.

Submittal Process

  • Residential fences, limited to single family lots, with materials such as wood, vinyl, and aluminum picket, must be submitted as a Fence Permit online via Orange County Fast Track. Only the homeowner or contractor may complete the application.
  • Residential walls, including but not limited to brick or stucco, that includes structural walls or concrete columns, must be submitted as a Building Permit online via Orange County Fast Track.
  • Commercial fences, structural walls, or concrete columns, are required to obtain a Building Permit online via Orange County Fast Track.

Submittal Guidelines

  • Fence Permits must be submitted online through Orange County Fast Track.
  • Submissions must include a completed, legible dimensioned site plan or a dimensioned survey with the proposed location of the fence notated (to scale).
  • If the proposed fence is located in an easement, a completed and signed Easement Acknowledge Form must also be submitted.
    • Refer to your survey, or recorded plat if applicable, to see if there are any easements on your property. Recorded plats are available on the Property Appraiser’s website.
  • Only PDF files will be accepted. Orange County Fast Track is case sensitive, copy the file name exactly as depicted below. If the file is not named as depicted below, the system will reject the permit.
    • For the site plan the file name shall be ‘A100-Siteplan-Fence’.
    • For the Easement Acknowledgement form, the file name shall be ‘A200-Easement Form-Fence’.
  • A reviewer will process your application and you will be able to track your permit on Fast Track Online Permitting.

Review Process

  • The review time after submittal is 4 business days. Within 4 business days you will receive an email that outlines any deficiencies or an approval for your permit application.
  • Applications that are denied will be sent a denial email. The submitted application may be amended/corrected to meet the code requirements.
  • Applications that are approved will be notified by email that the application has been approved with instruction to pay your permit fee via Fast Track Online Permitting.
    • Once all required fees are paid, you may access a copy of your residential fence permit via Fast Track Online Permitting by selecting the ‘View Fence Permit Form’ link under the specific permit number from your ‘My Permits’ tab.
  • A residential fence permit expires within 180 days of approval or submittal and a new application will be required along with any application review fees

Fees

  • $38 plus(fee schedule)
  • Please note that if the permit for a fence is the result of a code enforcement violation, there will be an additional fee of $40.
